5 Ways to Get Energized Before a Workout

Posted by Benjamin Barling on

Exercising and working out is all well and good when your training is going well, but have you ever had days when you just can’t seem to motivate yourself and energize your body before you work out? If so, there’s usually two outcomes: The first outcome is that you simply decide to skip your workout for the day because your mind and body are not in it, whilst the second outcome is you forcing yourself to train and having a sluggish, boring, non-productive training session. If you are constantly finding your energy levels lagging however, this can have a very detrimental effect on your training, which means that a solution will need to be found, and fast. If your get up and go has got up and gone, here are 5 ways to get energized before a workout.

Hydration

Hydrate with water One of the most common reasons why people often struggle to find the physical and psychological energy to exercise is a lack of water. Dehydration can lead to feelings of lethargy and can result in the metabolism becoming suppressed. Once the metabolism slows down you will find it even harder to burn calories in order to generate the energy needed to get you through your workouts. Furthermore, as you workout you will likely be sweating so you will lose even more fluids and vital electrolytes. If you were mildly dehydrated to begin with, the more fluid you lose the worse it will be. Before working out, begin sipping on water an hour before training, making sure to top your water bottle up before your workout begins. Keep sipping as you exercise, and you should find that your mind and body both seem to have more energy than you may have been previously used to.

Consider a pre-workout supplement

If you are really struggling then it may be time for you to consider investing in a pre-workout supplement. Our Workout Booster Blend coffee supplement for example, has been specially formulated to provide the body with the nutrients and ingredients it needs to perform at its best. Not only do you have caffeine for physical and mental energy, it is also enriched with MCTs, choline, BCAAs, Beta-Alanine, and much more besides, which all provide their own unique energy-boosting benefits to the body and mind, whilst also working in synergy with one another to ensure you have a healthy and productive workout.

Fuel up before training

Doesn’t matter what time you exercise, if you are exercising on an empty stomach you are going to run out of energy sooner rather than later. Around an hour before you train you should ideally fuel up and eat something healthy and beneficial for the body. A bowl of oatmeal could prove very effective as this is a great source of slow-release energy in the form of complex carbohydrates. It is also rich in iron which assists with the transportation of oxygen and nutrients around the body via the red blood cells. Any healthy coffee and balanced meal will work wonders for your energy levels. Some people choose to fuel up with low carb, high healthy fat meals, as without the presence of carbs, the body finds it much easier to digest the fats and use them as a key source of energy. In this instance, something like smoked salmon and scrambled eggs would work very well as a pre-workout energy-boosting meal.

Listen to your favourite music

Another great way of getting energized before a workout, and one which does not involve nutrition, is listening to music. Studies have found that listening to your favourite music before you exercise will help to stimulate the production and secretion of endorphins, which will give you a temporary endorphin-high which will stimulate the brain and body and help keep fatigue-inducing stress hormones like cortisol at bay. Before you hit the gym, and during your workout if you can, throw on your favourite playlist, crank up the volume, and let the music do the energy-boosting for you.

Consider our Lean Green Blend

Sometimes it’s more of a natural boost of energy that you require, in which case you’ll want to try to keep the caffeine content relatively low. Our Lean Green Blend therefore, is absolutely perfect for those of you who don’t want to have to risk dealing with a caffeine comedown once the stimulating effects wear off. Our Lean Green Blend is enriched with MCTs, Spirulina, Choline, and Green Tea. MCTs can be used as a very quick source of energy for the body, whilst the green tea contains much lower dosages of caffeine than other beverages and pre-workout supps out there. The caffeine from the tea provides mild stimulating effects, without being too extreme. Not only that, but the antioxidants found in it, along with the spirulina and other natural ingredients, will help to boost the immune system like never before, leaving you healthier than ever, and ready to attack the day.
